(More customer reviews)The Convert-A-Ball SG Black Step Gate w/ handle has the potential to be a great product but falls a little short.I installed it on my Dodge RAM 2500.I believe it could be installed on any modern truck.

The good: Easy installation, drilling is required.Some screws are provided plus plastic caps.The finish is black and the frame is sturdy.The step and handle are removable from the attached plate.

The so-so:The providedThe product is painted, not powder-coated.On a tall truck like mine I would have preferred a second step or ladder.The installation guide states that the more screws one uses on the base plate, the better.However, only about two-thirds of the number of screws and caps are provided as compared to the number holes in the plate.I'm hoisting 240-lbs on that plate so I want all screws possible holding that plate to the tailgate.One can buy those screws in blister packs but I'll never find those caps.It rained after installation.The next day my blood pressure rose as I saw streams of rusty water pour onto my truck bed.I'll be spraying WD-40 into the channels in an attempt to clean this thing up.

Recommendation:With a little work and expense this device could a useful tool.I would recommend it to a friend, making known the product shortcomings.With a little more work and a little more expense by the manufacturer, I would have been a happier customer and I would have sung the praises of the manufacturing excellence.As it is, I'll have to buy screws, install them, look for caps in vain, clean-up the rust, buy WD-40 and spray it into the channels.It concerns me that our manfacturers supply us with second-rate products.I would consider a 35% discount on this product to be a fair rebate due to the failings as explained.
