The description of this lamp kit is vague, to say the least, not Amazon's fault though.
EVERYTHING is VAUGE with Hella Products.
Vague as the picture in the ad depicts the Hella FF75 (rectangular), NOT the Hella FF55 (oval), which is the light kit I received.
Vague as far as housing composition (plastic or metal) Turns out the housing is made of composite (plastic).
The ad claims that this is a fog lamp kit. It is actually a driving lamp kit. The reflector and the lens determine this. There is lots of writing on the box, in many other languages besides English, but none of it says much as far as description of the product (very typical of Hella products).
WHAT'S INCLUDED-
40 page instruction booklet which contains 2 pages (in English).
No aiming or alignment instructions except Hella makes the
recommendation for you to take the car to the shop or
service garage for alignment (!)
Relay and roll of generic brown wire (not the heat-resistant type), mounting hardware.
You (the purchaser) must attach the wire to the lamp internals.
The hardware included is black oxide finished (not the most rust resistant).The single mounting bolt is a (grade) metric bolt. Why a grade 8.8 bolt to mount a 1 pound lamp??
I can't make sense of it. Besides, it is oxide or phosphate coated (prone to rust soon).
I doubt the bolts will last one winter before becoming a rusted mess.
Lenses are glass of average thickness (glass beats plastic) however thin enough to be broken or stone-chipped if mounted too low on vehicle.
BULB REPLACEMENT- APPLIES TO ALL AUXILERY LAMP KITS!
If a bulb ever needs replacement, plan on installing an entire new lamp kit BECAUSE
The dismount/disassembly/realignment of any of these units is TIME CONSUMING. And chances are, if one bulb has died, the other is on the way soon!
SUMMERY-
This is one of the pricier "fog lamp" kits out there. The price is so close to the PIAA projector lamp kit @ $99.00, I would recommend spending the additional $$ for the PIAA because the housings are powder coated aluminum and the lamps are simulated HID technology. All in all, however vague Hella may be, they still produce a decent product that works.
